Blackout Linings material for curtains

Make curtains separately from the blackout curtain linings and put on with a lining tape - so that you end up with the curtain linings not as gathered as the curtains and so that the curtains are less bulky. Then sew the linings to the curtains by hand down the sides - can use quite large stitches andt it means that its easier to wash the curtains at a later stage, and if the lining needs to be replaced first you can just put new lining in.

Publican? don't make the obvious mistake, find the right accountant

It is obvious to the casul observer that someone running a business like a public house will need an accountant. What is not so obvious though is that there are many types and specialites in the accountancy world. It is very easy to sign up with a glorified bookeeper rather than someone who is going to help you make the most of your business. Look a round for accountants for pubs and hotels rather than the first or the cheapest one you find.

British Television, Shopping and Memberships

British television broadcasting

British television broadcasting started in 1936, and now has a collection of free and subscription services over a variety of distribution media, through which there are up to 600 channels for consumers as well as on-demand content. There are six main channel owners who are responsible for most viewing. There are 27,000 hours of domestic content produced a year at a cost of £2.6 billion. Analogue terrestrial transmissions are currently being switched off and this is due to be completed in 201

Internet television

Television received via the Internet may be free, subscription or pay-per-view, multicast, unicast, or peer-to-peer, streamed or downloaded, and use a variety of distribution technologies. Playback is normally via a computer and broadband Internet connection, although digital media receivers or media centre computers can be used for playback on televisions, such as the Netgear Digital Entertainer or a computer equipped with Windows Media Center.
Since 2006, UK channel owners and content producers have been creating Internet services to access their programmes. These services are available to UK residents with a broadband Internet connection (some may block users outside of the UK). The services often employ digital rights management technologies to reduce the threat of illegal distribution. The providers have adopted several different models of distribution:

  1. Download programmes from the BBC and Five
  2. Streamed programmes from the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV and Sky
  3. Catch-up services from the last 7 (BBC) or 30 days (other providers)
  4. Rent or buy individual programmes from providers other than the BBC
  5. Access to streamed channels ('live TV') as well as indivudal programmes

Broadcasting

Historically, there have been several different types of electronic broadcasting mediums:

* Telephone broadcasting (1881-1932): the earliest form of electronic broadcasting (not counting data services offered by stock telegraph companies from 1867, if ticker-tapes are excluded from the definition). Telephone broadcasting began with the advent of Théâtrophone ("Theatre Phone") systems, which were telephone-based distribution systems allowing subscribers to listen to live opera and theatre performances over telephone lines, created by French inventor Clément Ader in 1881. Telephone broadcasting also grew to include telephone newspaper services for news and entertainment programming which were introduced in the 1890s, primarily located in large European cities. These telephone-based subscription services were the first examples of electrical/electronic broadcasting and offered a wide variety of programming .
* Radio broadcasting (experimentally from 1906, commercially from 1920): radio broadcasting is an audio (sound) broadcasting service, broadcast through the air as radio waves from a transmitter to an antenna and, thus, to a receiving device. Stations can be linked in radio networks to broadcast common programming, either in syndication or simulcast or both.
* Television broadcasting (experimentally from 1925, commercially from the 1930s): this video-programming medium was long-awaited by the general public and rapidly rose to compete with its older radio-broadcasting sibling.
* Cable radio (also called "cable FM", from 1928) and cable television (from 1932): both via coaxial cable, serving principally as transmission mediums for programming produced at either radio or television stations, with limited production of cable-dedicated programming.
* Satellite television (from circa 1974) and satellite radio (from circa 1990): meant for direct-to-home broadcast programming (as opposed to studio network uplinks and downlinks), provides a mix of traditional radio and/or television broadcast programming with satellite-dedicated programming.
* Webcasting of video/television (from circa 1993) and audio/radio (from circa 1994) streams: offers a mix of traditional radio and television station broadcast programming with internet-dedicated webcast programming.

British TV Channels

Free and subscription providers are available, with differences in the number of channels, capabilities such as the programme guide (EPG), video on demand (VOD), high-definition (HD), interactive television via the red button, and coverage across the UK. Set-top boxes are generally used to receive these services; however Integrated Digital Televisions (IDTVs) can also be used to receive Freeview or Freesat. Top Up TV and BT Vision utilise hybrid boxes which receive Freeview as well as additional subscription services. Households viewing TV from the internet (YouTube, Joost, downloads etc) are not tracked by Ofcom. The UK's five most watched channels, BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4 and Five, are available from all providers (although in many areas, including almost the whole of Wales, Five is not receivable on analogue terrestrial television).
